The Osuna Park Neighborhood Association will hold a general meeting with election of new Board members at 7:00-8:30pm, Thursday, 26 August 2010. All residents of our neighborhood are invited to attend, and OPNA members are invited to vote in the election.
SPEAKERS:
We will have not one, but two distinguished speakers at the meeting:
KAREN MONTOYA, Bernalillo County Assessor.
She will have a short presentation on what the Office of the Assessor does, the
mission of her office, and information on what exemptions a homeowner might qualify
for. Ms. Montoya will also take your questions from the floor. Given the changes
in housing values and sales (as our real estate agent members can attest!) over the
past year or two, I expect this to be a lively session.
The Honorable CRISTINA JARAMILLO, Presiding Judge for DWI and Drug Court.
Judge Jaramillo is also involved with the Alternate Dispute Resolution Office, a
division of the Legal Department for the City of Albuquerque. She will talk about
the Community Mediation Program and how it can help resolve disputes in our
neighborhood, or between neighbors. As your OPIE email has received a number of
questions about barking dogs, noisy fireworks, trash burning in backyards, and even
a huge outbuilding which blocks a neighbor's view, I think you might find her
presentation quite useful.
As always, we will have neighborhood news, lots of handouts and information, FREE
refreshments, pictures from the July 4th parade and party, the Treasurer's annual report, and
of course the election of new Board members to help OPNA run for another year. So please mark
the date on your calendars and plan to attend.
We hope to start promptly at 7:00pm, as we have a full schedule. Please come and enjoy the social
fellowship, the refreshments, and the time to hear from our guest speakers. If you have any
suggestions for future meeting topics, please contact any Board member by email at
opna@cnsp.com.
What's a Geocache, you ask? It's a small box of trinkets, souveniers, and other stuff traded by those who find it, plus a logbook and pencil. There are several hundred thousand hidden worldwide by Geocachers, people with a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver who love to play hide-and-seek in a rather unique way. Opie's cache was originally hidden near the school, but someone vandalized it, so a new cache was hidden off one of the open space trails that start at the parking area at the top of Spain. Here's Opie's log on the worldwide Geocaching link. Just enter Opie's cache identifier GCRG3C in the "Search for Geocaches" window. If you have a GPS, go look for it! It's a great hike in a beautiful area of the National Forest, and you can even leave an OPNA souvenier of your own.
